Does bending the spring arm not work?
If I understand @Cupcakes correctly, his issue isn't the magnitude of the spring tension, it's the uniformity from side to side

Getting those shimano mini vees to display even return spring tension between the two arms is like getting blood from a stone. It seems to blaze through all of the spring tension adjustment in about a quarter turn of the screw.
