Whats wrong with being unimpressed with my bulbous shiney BB?
@mdcc_tester - Thanks for the inspiration, bit of a gamble. Anyone know conclusively?
These guys seem to agree to disagree: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/hope-gxp-bottom-bracket-converter
I saw someone out the other day with a BB that was no thicker than the shell of the frame. Pretty sure it was a steel frame, so less likely to be one of the numerous press fits out there. Any ideas folks?

Any ideas folks?
BBR60 has an OD of 41mm, compared with 44mm for normal HT2/GXP/UT cups. It's not much, but next to a steel BB shell with an OD ~39mm, it's quite a difference. Of course, one of the cups is almost completely obscured by the spider, and the other is half hidden by the NDS crank, so it's possible that you're just being ludicrously pernickety :-)

Pernickity maybe, but it looked so neat. While they are obscured if you look from the side, a glance down while you're riding and there it is, all not matching and looking out of place. I've got them on both my mtn bikes and they don't bother me, but on this it just looks wrong...
Think I might go with the uber one. 30 quid seems reasonable and looks well made....I will report back.

Is the hope stainless external bb better than the da9000 one? It's about twice the cost.

Would Hope conversion shims fit an SM-BBR60 to allow a GXP axle to fit a Shimano BB?
No. The dust shield is different on the Shimano BB and the Hope shims will crush it.

New summer bike, couldn't finish it this evening because of headset issues...

Is that a quill style ahead stem on a threaded ahead adapter on a threaded headset?
Why not just a quill stem?
-
• #103060
That's a really nice build and the frame is awesome. ^Agree with acliff that the stem looks a bit off though, quill would look better.

Ha! So you got that!
Dibs when you sell.

@danstuff is correct, the Hope shim wouldn't work with Shimano BB's and the shim is in two parts so you'd have to remove the NDS cup to install/remove the shims, also removing the shims from the bearing is a PITA.
Not sure how the Hope BB compares to a DA or other Shimano for durability but for me it's well worth paying the premium for over a Sram GXP. I trashed a GXP BB in 2 months, have been happily riding the Hope for 18 months with no sign of grittiness yet.

The DA9000 I've been using has gone pretty gritty after 5,000 miles. Does that sound reasonable?

Nice frame! Guess it's French? What's the tubing?
-
• #103065
Yeah haha my mate has first refusal so you can be second inline. Though I don't see myself selling it anytime soon!
-
• #103066
Yeah that a ahead stem on threaded HS with adaptator. Just to see how the frame looked like when built.
That is Columbus NEMO tubing and french so we good !
Looking for cinelli 1R black stem, 110 or 120mm if someone has it... -
• #103067
Dunno how much are they? For what it's worth I'd estimate my Hope BB has done 20,000+ in all weathers

i like the look of the grammo on the bike.. the quill version might be better than the 1r
-
• #103069
Shure it looks good, but the quill version is really fat.. The best option would be a long 1" carbon fork with the ahead grammi. iMHO
