  • You can get a BMW RT1150 for £3-4k. It's shaft drive but it's consistently at the top end of the touring bike ratings. I had one of the earlier NT's and it never left me stranded, however the rear suspension crapped out on a short tour of Devon/Cornwall 2up and I washed out the front a few times because no ABS. Dropped a valve once but still got home.

  • No, the BMW have issues, that are expensive and aren't that great. As you show by having front end wash out.

  • Sorry mate, you read me wrong. Had the front end lock up a few times on the Honda. The 1150 has abs and the R80 has only ever locked up once and it was controllable. The BMW's are expensive if the rear drive fails, otherwise they do consistently rate highly with owners for touring and that's what was being discussed. They're not perfect of course but good for that job.

I'm guessing it would be the R1150RS rather than the RT which would compare to the multistrada. I've not ridden the Ducati but it has a good rep. Not the same full touring style as an RT though.
