Still can't decide on what colour and type of tape to go for..?
White Benotto would be appropriate, but modern cork or EVA tape if you're actually going to ride it.

Cabling 5800 for the first time.
The gear cables exit the shifters quite low down and somewhat proud: is it intended that they go under the bar and get taped to the back?
Any tips for handlebar tape: looks like a neat job around the shifters won't be easy.

No, but you can.
Best of luck with the front mech :-/

I've wrapped the bars now, both cables to the front. Turned out better than I thought, two layers of tape smoothed things out.
What's the grief with the FD?

Required more tension than you think.
Shouldn't be difficult once you bed in the housing and tighten it enough to allow a bit of tensioning with the barrier adjuster.

I find it a total PITA. I can setup a 10sp mech in 5mins but these are quite different. I'm not the person to ask for setup tips as I gave up and handed it to a mechanic. I still need to tweek the inline adjuster to get clearance for big/big and riding anywhere near small/small is a big no/no.

You may find that a bit long with proper bars if you're measuring horizontally, my LoPro is about 53cm effective top tube length and I'm 6'1". On the other hand, if you're going to use a chode stem and risers, it will be fine.

truth be told the #cannondalerack didn't make for the best commute, (rack, racey geo, alu, 25c tyres)
so the rack went on the Goldsprint with brklz a la @roboto 's setup. Just filled the Chrome bag full of old textbooks and went on a short ride to see the handling under a heavy load...the steering is noticeably different (obviously), and I suspect I'll end up putting brakes on (is drilled) but it's a far better 'feeling' than the 'dale. May swap tyres for RiBMos as I suspect I'll be doing a little more skidding until I eventually accept that a front brake is a good idea. Which then prompts swapping wheels for my Open Pro to System Ex hubs as I don't wanna mess up the TB14 surface...

Track geometry make it harder to steer under a front load either way, if you want to make it easier, fitting a road fork with more rake make it noticably easier.

I've been offered a carbon railed Fizik for cheap, but it won't be a bargain if the seatpost costs me
£50.I need a 400mm/27.2mm inline post for 7mm x 9mm rails, but I'm struggling: 27.2mm posts for carbon rails is an odd combination it seems.
Any suggestions please?

Edit: just realised you stated that :)
As long clamps haven't any sharp edges you will be fine I guess!3T ("pro" line, cheaper than "team" and "ltd") makes inline seatposts at 27.2mm!

Got a new crankset for the Neil, sugino 75 with a silly aero chainring. Need to change the bb to get the correct chain line but I have to order a campy bb tool first. Also rocking a front basket for daily commuting, very handy.

Thanks all for your pedal opinions. Managed to salvage a set of 520s which i'll stick with for now. However there are more pressing issues now.
Got a lovely Rival 10 speed groupset which I've just stuck on the road machine. I think its the best looking groupo around, apart from the bottom bracket...its silver and bulbous.
Does anyone know a GXP compatible black more "low profile" BB that wont break the bank (not Hope/Chris King)
I can see one on planet x, and one by uber. Anyone know of any others? lower the profile the better as its going on a skinny steel road frame. Thanks in advance!
I detect a note of sarcasm there... Maybe best to play it safe and go for white.
