  • There's plenty of Iron in a balanced diet.

    There is also plenty of Iron in stuff you might not consider,
    chickpeas, lentils, almonds, cashews.
    Tahini is pretty good as is date syrup,
    (you know West Ealing, have a look in those Turkish [?] shop s for)
    'hurma pekmez' best translated as 'date molasses'.

    An energy, (and Iron) dense, Turkish treat is tahini mixed with a fruit molasses
    spread on bread!

    It is possible to get enough Iron in the diet without extra meat.
    The NHS fixed a condition where I was losing blood.
    Regular blood checks while I waited for the necessary op
    routinely showed my haemoglobin level to be at the top end of 'healthy',
    and
    I haven't eaten meat for 30 years.
