  • They are tektro inverse, about £25 a pair? Just watch the internal diameter of the bars, even those that are the right diameter might not be quite enough so you'll have to file a tiny bit off them. Didn't help vo sent slightly damaged bars :(
But they work very well withy canti, feel much better esp to folk with short fingers.

  • Hmm... No bartape.

  • I need a functional bike as my, soon to be, new commute is too hilly to do day after day on fixed.

I just don't have the time to build one, I've spotted this....

Anyone heard of this brand? It's silly cheap for what's fastened to the frame. I'm even contemplating the Rohloff version as its only £1200.

  • Hello functional thread - apols if this has been covered elsewhere but can someone point me to a rear pannier rack to go on my eyelet free fixie skiddah?

would people recommend something to attach to seat post orget a rack with eyelet holes and those thingymajigs that you can add to seatstays that create something for rack to attach to.

Hope I haven't blinded any of the less technically minded with my lingo, obvs.

    Ta!

  • Did an audax with this couple on Friday night. Didn't get a better picture, but lovely, lovely Roberts with S&S coupler's.

  • Latest incarnation. I made my own expandable inserts for the brake levers by adapting alloy wall plugs of the correct diameter. I also made the mudguard extensions.

  • So.... So... Ugly....

  • So... So... Awesome

  • Have you considered a current project thread ? So good to have a chronological record of a bike as it evolves, all in one place. Nice to be able to look back at it over time.

  • Already tried a Wald - got a relatively small bike though and the Wald basket I did have on there to actually be of any use was way too much for the headset to cope with.

  • Ha! Guess that's why there not in the porn thread. But yep fugly.

  • In seriousness though, looks like something you ride around the world on, not a bit overkill?

  • At that price it'll do. Gives me options of some rough bridle ways as well.

  • They did all kind of audax, including the LEL.

  • Sound more like you have a problem with the headset rather.

  • I agree with @edscoble, not really seeing how a Wald would put any extra strain on the headset.

I have the biggest Wald available on a bike that I can press the headset cups into with my hands, runs fine.

  • That bike is ridiculous unless you are old or very heavy and literally cannot shift your weight on the bike. Go for bigger tyres before suspension if you're getting pinch-flats on bridleways.

  • Why is it ridiculous? Just a fugly tourer? Yes it is, but xt and deore for just over £500 with BM Dynamo lights. The bridle way I'm thinking is the Mary Townley Loop not a stone compacted NCN6 type one which I do on fixed 23mm tyres.

Sure it's got some unnecessary suspension but that won't do any harm in fact with some of the roads it might be kinder to my shagged left elbow. This is the functional thread after all.

  • It is a lot of function for off the peg bike.
Fork is just a coil spring though it has a lockout. You will be stuck with the brakes as they have a unique mounting boss I think.
Roughly same cost , 550 quid you can get hybrid with shim hydro discs and alfine 8 but no dynamo, guards or suspension.
Could do a lot worse for the money thats fosure.

  • For the MTL probably be better off getting a cheap 29er or a cross bike. Pinnacle Ramin One is about 450 at the moment... or the next one up with a bouncy front is a shade over 500...

Larger tyres on a rigid bike > coil sus fork. The terrain round the MTL isn't too bad, depending on which way you go it's either a shit load of gates and some long draggy climbs or a shit load of gates and a bunch of short steep pushes. If you're riding round it at night, get a headlight or something bright as the dyno light it comes with is more of a 'be-seen' than 'to see' too.

Saying all that - I've seen people on supermarket BSOs rolling up and down various parts of the loop and Pennine Bridleway, so I'm sure you'll be fine whatever you end up with!

  • cheers @psee and @JB for the shout on the PDW's been meaning to get some guards for ages and that looked like too good a deal to miss.

My Dolan work bike is now full functional

I'm also after a front porteur rack, reasonably sturdy but must be flat pack-able for travel. Any recommendations?

  • Where are the £550 bikes? I did Google for UK equivalents but couldn't I find owt, must have weak Google powers.

  • Yeah I agree, I just need a utility bike and that came up in Google. There is a rigid fork version for the same price as that particular one has an extra £75 off.

I know the mtl very well as I live pretty much on it. Tbh if my new commute wasn't so hilly I'd manage on my fixed. But Owd Betts 3 or 4 days a week would be too much for me.

Tbh the Rohloff one for £1250 just seems tooooo cheap to pass up.
