  • GPS and GLONASS..... then no microSD slot to actually put proper maps on. top trolling garmin

  • It have the same memory as the 510 (and it also have GPS/GLONASS), OpenStreetMaps can let you download a specific area abet not the whole of Europe/UK.

My biggest concern is why the battery life is 1/4th less than the Edge 510 despite the lack of touch screen.

  • 510 doesn't do maps i thought? bound to use more battery

  • Technically it doesn't, just breadcrumb trail.

520 battery likely to be even shorter than 15 hours if you were to use the maps constantly.

  • Anyone with a Fenix 2 - have you worked out a way to make the fucking thing re-connect with a powermeter if you've walked beyond range?

Un-pair then re-pair I'd imagine. Sounds like a shit workaround to a shit bug though.

  • Yeah, that's all I've been able to come up with - get off bike, stop ride, save, buy coffee, drink, start fresh ride, have your ride file look like you've done a sort of running stitch across the country.

  • From experience Garmin's primary design and tech principle isn't first record and preserve the user's data then do everything else

  • Yes, I hear you on that one.

Frustrating, as I want this pair (Vectors and Fenix 2) for the track, and it's useless if whenever you come into the track-centre you lose the PM.

  • Today Garmin art.

  • open street maps - can I have UK maps and French Maps on the device at the same time?

  • Yes. Generate an img file with both countries. You might be limited by SD space and some other device constraints but it should work.

  • It is best regards f you only have one map enabled at a time, having multiple maps enabled tends to slow down map screen redrawing

  • Garmin connect y u no let me export my ride as gpx!!!

Rode to Dunwich and back at the weekend, due to Garmins propensity to fuck up rides of long distance I recorded it in two sections with the intention of stitching the files together later, I can export one but not the other, just getting an error message.

Has anyone had anything similar and found a work around?

  • What are you exporting from? Connect? It's a bit flakey - try basecamp? or strava?

  • Connect, will give basecamp a look cheers

  • Strava has solved it. Won't be using connect again, didn't realise you could export from Strava!

  • Ace :)

  • My old 700 just turns off mid ride sometimes. When I turn it back on, it picks up where it left off, except my average speed jumps to about 3000mph..

  • Considered doing some track racing?

  • First time ever that I've drained the batteries on my Garmin Etrex 20 riding to Dunwich and back last weekend. Did switch it off during the breaks and they are rechargeable AA batteries. Varta 2100 mAh. Not sure how long the breaks would add up to but it was around 22 hours before I got the low battery warning.

  • I reckon with ride like the DD, normal AA battery would sufficient for 25+hours.

  • Just picked up a garmin Dakota 20 for 100 quid with bicycle mount.
    Downloaded osm for uk.
Ordered heart rate and cadence for 50 quid.
A few rides to work and back and I love this unit.
This is what the garmin touring should off been

  • What's the battery life on a Garmin 810? I whittled mine down to 53% in 7 hours, at 14C with the occasional swipe to see the map (not navigating though). Sound about right?

  • Sound about right, bluetooth off?

  • Yeah bluetooth off. What's the total battery life on it in those sorts of conditions? Does the "Battery percentage" go down a little bit faster as it gets lower? Just trying to gauge if I can get 12-14 hours out of it.
