Seat Tube Insert Loose

  • I have a thing to sort out.

A couple of months ago I snapped the seatpost on my Lynskey, right at the top of the seat tube, leaving half of the post in the tube.

I couldn't remove it, so took it to LBS who did so for me

It turns out that there was a sort of liner, maybe 15cm or so long, in the top of the seat tube, which before this incident was somehow bonded to the inside of the seattube, but now is loose. The upshot of this is that it seems that I am having to tighten my seatpost clamp more than I would like to keep the post in place.

Does anyone know the best way to reattach the liner to the tube? or offer other good advice?

    Cheers

  • Might just be a reducer shim? The missus's omega has one.

Take it out, measure diameter, buy seatpost to match true diameter of seat tube?

  • Reasonably sure it's not just a shim as the seatpost in it is a 27.2mm which is what Lynskey advertise as being the size. The thickness of the actual tube is tiny, horrifyingly so :-).. I'll take it apart and have another look in a bit. It'll make me feel better about not having been for a ride today

  • Drop Lynskey a line.

  • If it's just shim, get it out of there and put a proper seat post in and copper grease it.

  • Drop Lynskey a line

This. It'll be there for a reason.

  • Indeed, I have just done so. I'd just never seen one before.

  • It's entirely possible that you could find a 'correctly' fitting seatpost, but I wouldn't risk it, as it might affect your warranty.

  • Oh I definitely wouldn't remove the sleeve, as I say the tube walls are phenomenally thin at the top. I just don't like the idea of it being loose either :-)
