• And who to build them?

This is the 'build it yourself thread', so it's your job to build them :-)

Pricing on Novatec hubs varies quite a bit, from £30 if On-One have a clearance to about twice that. The rims are £30 each from Superstar (Pave28) but they only stock 20 and 24H or £40 from DCR, ACI spokes are 21p each. All told, on a good day, you could be looking at just over £100 for the components, up to about £150 if you don't find bargains. Labour ranges from £40 to £80 for a pair of wheels. If you lace them up yourself you can probably save a bit on the building charge even if you pay somebody else to finish them.

  • Thanks again tester! Never tried building my own wheels and have had mixed results just truing them. :) Wouldn't mind trying but I like the idea of getting someone who knows what they're doing to build me a bombproof set for daily use and then maybe starting afresh with my dying v-sprint rear and completely relacing that with new spokes, see if I can get it right...

  • I've built one 36 spoke wheel. It's not so bad if you've a wheel jig and some help which I had. Cycled it for 5 months not a bit out of true. Go for it :)

If the new rims has the same dimension as the old and same lacing all you need is a respoke on new rim, saves £££
