Cheers tester! I think I'd like to stick to the cheaper end of things as they're not gonna be for show. Any idea of a ballpark figure for a build with the kinlins and novatecs? And who to build them?

Pricing on Novatec hubs varies quite a bit, from £30 if On-One have a clearance to about twice that. The rims are £30 each from Superstar (Pave28) but they only stock 20 and 24H or £40 from DCR, ACI spokes are 21p each. All told, on a good day, you could be looking at just over £100 for the components, up to about £150 if you don't find bargains. Labour ranges from £40 to £80 for a pair of wheels. If you lace them up yourself you can probably save a bit on the building charge even if you pay somebody else to finish them.

Flavour of the month is Kinlin XC279, Novatec A165/166 hubs are flavour of the century. Both available with other branding. H+Son Archetype remains popular, but quite pricey next to the Kinlin.
