  • never seen a gazelle in Aelle.

    It might have been repainted with wrong tubing decals. Also that fork doesn't look like a typical Gazelle fork to me.

    I might be wrong of course.

  • Is it really aelle? I mean, Aelle complete bikes are going around 150 bucks, and this is not even a whole bike..

    are you certain about the tubing?

  • it is clearly a re-paint, but the frame is a Gazelle, I think it is Reynolds 531 and not Aelle.
    Still not worth the price and I still think the forks is not the matching one either.

  • The way the top of the seat-stays wrap around the top of the seat-tube is very typical of Gazelles:

    However, I've only ever seen these made from Reynolds.

  • The rear brake bridge is the typical butterfly one used on Gazelles. So yeah, it is a Gazelle frame, definitely not Columbus Aelle (which is good)

  • I bought it as Aelle, maybe it's not. Frame weighs 1.8kg and 2.5 with forks if it makes any difference. If you have so many doubts I lower the price, 200 pounds posted.

  • Perhaps it isn't Aelle, but it could be made of something lighter than 531 y'know.

    I've got a 1980s Gazelle Champ Mondiale made of 531 that weighs exactly 2.7kg for the frame and forks. The frame is the same size as this one (my TT is 1cm longer, but I doubt that'll account for the 200g difference).

  • The rear dropouts have been heavily modded and it has a track fork but a champion mondial by the looks of it

  • Yours could be made of 531c ('c' stands for Competition, I think) which is a lighter 531.

    531 comes in different flavours, butted, double butted, ST (for touring, so heavier and tougher), C and maybe something else.

    But AFAIK Gazelle never used Columbus. The seatpost can tell us this.

    @Atsui what's the seatpost size?
    Also, even if it was a full Gazelle frame in 531C, £200 is still expensive. Usually they go around £100 mark frameset only, I think

  • To make it more complicated: Gazelle used Columbus, but not Aelle. They used Columbus for lightweigth (!) frames e.g. in 1972 (you can browse the 'gazelle catalogues' which are online, just use g**gle).

    I think the frame above was re-worked and resprayed by gazelle. I've never seen an old style butterfly rear brake bridge along with these top tube cable bosses which are from the 90ties - as well as the decals.

    Yes, tijdrit is timetrial. I think they used Columbus for these frames (100 gr lighter than 531c) until 753 was available.

    Anayway: these early columbus frames have nothing do with AELLE.

  • I found the previous owner. He said it's Reynolds 531SL from 1974. Reynolds 531 SL weighs exactly 2.5kg. Do you know how to read Gazelle serial numbers ?
