  • I think it's just age. Leg speed doesn't last forever. I can't spin as fast as I used to.. Maybe if he spent some more time in the gym he could compensate a bit, but I think he likes to do things his own way.

  • Yeah but Greipel isn't about leg speed - he's about using brute force to get a big gear going. Which is why he gets faster the longer the sprint is. You get stronger with age but leg speed deteriorates - you just don't have the same elasticity. Cav's sprint has always been about his kick and his leg speed.

    I think it's mainly a confidence thing though - when you know you're faster than everyone you're racing you can afford to be patient and pick your moment. When you're not confident you panick and start too early or just do stupid stuff you wouldn't do if you were in top form.
