• You know I've a funny feeling the original Tudor Pelagos is going to become a major classic in years to come. It has all the right ingredients for it. The new one is a step back, what with all the text on the face etc. Am seriously considering getting one of the originals as a keeper to put in the safe.

  • Suspect you're right. It's a distinctive, instant classic of a design, it's (presumably) one of the last Tudor models that adheres to their historical use of ETA movements, and it's only been available for three years, which is a flash in the pan.

The new model, while desirable in its own right for the new movement and the blue colouring, will only ever be a later model of a classic.

The ETA model also has the advantage that any independent watchmaker can service it, the new one will have to go back to Tudex, with the attendant cost.

  • Move quickly if you're serious about this. Rumours that Tudor are recalling old stock of the Pelagos before the new one appears.
