Are you doing the route that follows the coast up to Carlisle then along the road which parallels the wall? If your fit and willing you can do it in 2 days on a road bike no bother, did it with some friends who had never ridden anywhere and on MTB's with the kitchen sink attached in 4 days though the last day was just 3 hours so didn't really count ;)
After you pass Newcastle city centre/waterfront I would just ignore the cycle path signs as they are mostly turned around/missing, and the cycle path itself is horrific to ride (glass, tree roots protruding upto 4" through the tarmac etc), just jump on the road and session it as its not a nice area.

I've done this. You will love it! I think I'm at a wedding so can't come though :(

Ravenglass and the back of windscale off road was a laugh plus the very exposed northwest bit in the north lakes . A sow ate a guests tool bag in a pub up there.
You will love it.

Hope so, thanks
I'm cycling Hadrian's Wall, west to east, Tuesday August 25th til Thursday 27th, is the plan. Train to Ravenglass from London on Monday August 24th and back to London from Newcastle on Friday August 28th. I've booked B&Bs. If you're interested in joining let me know.
Thanks
Angela
