thats odd, i have the privateer giro shoes which have very pronounced grips on the soles and havent had any trouble at all.
what pedals are you using?
-

There Shimano XT, when you hold the shoe and pedal together you can see the sole of the shoe hitting axle/side of the pedal before be cleat can engage.

Yeah, brilliant, that looks like what I need. They don't give very much information about how many mm's of spacing they give, but at that price I'm happy to take pot luck.
Cheers.

Just had a look at the privateer giro's the sole 'looks' like it might not be as deep as the terriotry, that might be the problem I'm having

I'd trim some material away from the treads rather than use shims.
I've had a search of the forum and can't see an topics in relation to cleat Shims, it's not the most interesting of things I know.
I recently go a new pair of commuting shoes, rather than going with my normal, Sidi's I thought I'd try some Giro, these.

The problem I have is the shimano cleats (2 bolt mountain bike style) sit below the replaceable shoe soles meaning that sole of the shoe hits the axle of the pedal before the cleats engages with the pedal. Does that make sense ? There is about a 3 mm gap which I need to shim to raise the cleat off the bottom of the shoe.
I've found these, but £40 with postage seams mental for a couple of bit of plastic, well, 8 wedges.

Does anybody have any experience of this problem and how to fit it in an economic way
Many thanks.
