Sorry, didn't mean to give the idea that anything drastic had happened.
I was adjusting the seatpost earlier and found a tiny crack by the seat clamp. Will be dropping the bike off with Matt tomorrow and he's going to make it well again.

Bah...at least it's getting sorted...paint damage expected?
Anyway, I checked in here to see what time you lot were going to be around, as I was planning a doughnut delivery in the camper to coincide with cake break!
I reckon I can knock up a better than average coffee on the stovetop pot too! -

paint damage expected?
Tiny little bit, but nowhere near the fade, so easy to sort out.

• #305
replace the word 'faith' with 'fade'.

Anyone fancying a slightly 'bigger' day out should consider going on this ride.
Bigger hills and more technical trails than on the rides I do :-)

Good news about the paint....and I'm trying to sort out some time off/logistics for that one...

Thanks for putting the word about and sorry to hear that you can't make it now. Hopefully next Epping Forest ride you organise I'll be along for it. :-)

Sorry to hear about the bike Pete! Hope it's all sorted quickly.
Unfortunately it looks like I probably won't be able to make it this weekend either.

Had a quick blast around epping yesterday afternoon, quite enjoyed bringing out flat pedals and doing all the bunyhops and laiiry turns.

Bit last minute, but if anybody fancies it, I'll be at Chingford Station at 11am on Tuseday.

Damn, I took a last minute day off work to go to Epping with @mmccarthy last Tuesday. Not sure I could do the same this week as well! Wish I could though...

• #313
Bah.... thanks, Obamaccarthy!

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned a way to Epping through woods all the way from Leyton? Any maps of this?
Potentially cold ride up Tuesday depending on things...

There is a nice little route all the way from near Whipps Cross, but unfortunately, I haven't ridden it since getting a Garmin.
Perhaps I could start a future ride from that location?

Mostly just curious about it for mixing things up. Something/somewhere new to explore.
-
• #321
It's worth taking a day to explore. You can figure the route out fairly quickly and if you do take the wrong path, you're soon out of the forest and can easily retrace your steps.

By maps do you mean electronic type maps, or old-school paper type things? If the latter I've got one I could put up.

It's a pretty narrow strip of woodland up from Whipps Cross so as @BareNecessities says, it's hard to get lost. I tend to ride to the end of Lea Bridge road then you've got a choice of singletrack either side of Woodford New Road. If you live further south you can ride all the way up from Wanstead Flats off-road, just join up the green stuff.

I've just knocked together a route along the bridleways though the woods from Walthamstow (Queen's Road overground station) up to Connaught Water in Epping Forest:

Attached is the .gpx file for Garmin.
I've not tried this yet, but it might be of use to those above!

WARNING - If the weather is this ghastly tomorrow, I will not hesitate to cancel.
I can easily change plans, i can see there is a clash with other things and issues going on.
It's also going to hit 28c so a hot day.
I will bail out this time on the ride as low numbers expected. The bike apart from a tyre change is good to go and will have a camelback next time too.
I may well come in for a ride around the olympic area, explore a bit on a boris bike as my bikelock is far from London-spec security, or wait until Sunday when it's quieter and a bit cooler and the station carpark is £1 on a sunday :)
Might go and vist Marc Bolan's memorial, a fleeting visit years ago, was a bit hard parking an HGV nearby :)
No worries, will attempt a later date :)
