  • Open pave.

  • At the moment I have a pair of Clement MXP 700x33 Steel bead tyres on my All City Nature Boy Disc, they're more for cycle cross than commuting in and they don't grip well when leaning/cornering in the dry so I don't want to imagine what they're like in the wet.

Question thinking getting some 32mm for commuting, but should I get marathon plus or hardshell?

  • TT - Conti Supersonic
Road Race - Vittoria Open Corsa CX/SC
    Daily fast tyre - GP4000sII
Training tyre - Vittoria Open Pave
    Commuter tyre - Marathons
    Skidder tyre - RiBMo

    Think that covers everyone's needs

  • I reckon that pave is faster then 4000s as soon as the tread wears down, which is soon.

Plus they ride a lot nicer than conti. Put some latex tubes in and they're plush.

28mm Schwable One also sound promising too.

  • Yup the Schwalbe ONE 28c can take a remarkable amount of gravel before puncture/cuts.

  • best bikepacking/commuter tyre is Schwalbe Marathon Supreme

  • Anybody ridden Panaracer Gravel king 32mm and/or Clement xplor mso 32mm?
Can get them both for a similar price. My Paselas are nearly done, so time to change, and due to the ride home having bridleways and shitty lanes, thought I'd try summat a little knobblier.

  • If you go for marathons I'd personally recommend supremes over plus. Mine (35's) have done over 1, 000 miles now in London with virtually no cuts, zero punctures. The marathon plus is only really necessary if you commute in a nail and glass filled urban dystopia IMO.

  • Perfect, how are they when cornering?

  • They be grippy.

  • No plans for Roubaix then?

  • sold! =)

It's 32mm, it gonna have more grip than your old 23mm.

  • Currently running Clement 33mm but the grip us terrible when cornering and almost lost it when one time round. Hopefully the marathon plus will be a better option.

  • marathon plus

    pls dont

Schwalbe One if you are ok with 28mm or Supreme for anything above. Kojak I think sits between them.

  • It's terrible because of the thread sticking out like a sore thumb providing significantly less grip than even a 20mm tubby.

    Don't. Fucking. Get. Marathon. Plus.

  • Why don't you get the Hutchinson; they are certainly the dearest?

  • Are these Clements cross tyres? Obvs going to be worse than road tyres on tarmac.

  • I never knew that when it came on the bike, so hence these discussion I guess.

What @edscoble said was what I was concerned with all the treads and the weight. Will need to sleep on this and see what's best in the long term.

  • The majority advised Supreme, it's a tyres, no sleeping is required.

    Tyres is serious bizness.

  • I fancy trying Conti's Grand Prix Supersonic with a Race28 Supersonic tube.

Thinking is no compromise lightness, repairable on the road.

    Anyone run this?

  • I use Supersonics, f0r TTs. They're tougher than you think, but I'm not sure I'd run thme on the road day to day.

Don't use supersonic tubes, use latex
