• At the 12 mile mark (just after Snape Maltings), take the right-hand fork onto the B1069 through Tunstall, Rendlesham and Eyke to pick-up your route at Melton (just before the 22 mile mark): quieter and through the shady forests.
    • Just before the 25 mile mark (at the Red Lion), turn tight onto the Bealings/Martlesham/Playford Rd, instead of the A1214: quieter and for the most part shaded.
    • If you do take the A1214, use the underpass at the Black Tiles (top of the Red Lion hill) to cross the A12, instead of the roundabout: less dodgy innit.
    • On the A1214, the dogleg at the 27 mile mark is pointless, just stay on the A1214.
    • When you hit the roundabout at 29.6 miles, turn right onto the A1189 (past Heath Road hospital), straight over the next roundabout (Foxhall Road) and right at the next one (St Augustines church) onto the A1156 to rejoin your route at 31.4 miles: stay the fuck out of the town centre.
  • Thanks for the tips Scilly. The dog leg through Kesgrave would be pointless if my grandma didn't live on Dobb's Lane! And I grew up on Woodville Rd so know the town part well enough.

The remoter parts duly noted however, never did get out much as kid.
