True, but they are members of the public speaking their brains without thinking and have zero credibility as a source. Someone who used to be inside the operation does. In fact, ex-employees are generally excellent sources of information on what is really going on inside an organisation, as they have had plenty of first hand experience but are not constrained by being a current employee and all that involves.
Of course, they may also have an axe to grind...
All those people on the radio talking about how cyclists are total cunts who jump red lights and dismember grannies tend to be using their own words too. Scuttlebutt on the wireless isn't any necessarily any more reliable than scuttlebutt that's been transcribed into print :/
