Definitely worth avoiding. Having slowed down and started unscrewing the torque tube, I then had the ramp down to the infield (in Aigle you're allowed to ride up and down the ramp unlike in London) which was, ahem, interesting with no means of resisting gravity and its inevitably accelerative effects. Quite a sharp turn at the bottom.
No, but I've had the torque tube start to unscrew itself, once slowing hard in Aigle to make the ramp at the velodrome, and once on the Brompton with a mistimed curb hop. It's my excuse for not skidding. Both seemed fine after I'd pedalled them back into place though.
