  • Heading to the Pyrénées in two weeks. Flying into Toulouse and picking up a rental car. What is the smallest car that would fit 2 x bike boxes?

  • I wouldn't go for anything less than an intermediate/standard station wagon/estate if you've got two bike boxes. You might get away with a compact wagon, but it'd be touch and go and would depend on which model you got.

  • It's going to have to be big - A6 estate, the A4 is way too small, my Volvo 850 would do it but the V70's are smaller these days, so not sure on those. Some of the Merc estates might be big enough?

Or get a couple of EVOC bags and collapse them before shoving them in the boot with the bikes in a Passat sized estate? Might save the purchase price of the bags on the rental, depending how much it increases per vehicle size class.

Or leave the bike boxes in the left luggage at Toulouse and just put the bikes in the car?

  • Lateral thinking; dump boxes at left luggage in airport, any car will do....
