Nitto S65 are nice, understated and can be had cheaply if you look around. Also they come in up to 300mm lengths

Thanks, am looking into it.
Does anyone have an ID on this seat post. Really love that build.

Ah, didn't realise was njs.
Stem is alu right? Should suit it nicely.
Yeah, it would probably be quite nice. If we got one together we could save money on shipping?
Are there any decent alu or steel shimano/dura ace seatposts. Kinda want to have a dura ace kinda group set going on. Plus imagine they would be cheaper.

Keep your eyes peeled on ebay for dura ace easton seatposts, they can go cheap. I had one but heard they fail often? which put me off kinda..

story is they apparently unbond at the glued(?) seam between clamp and seatpostmast.
im 82 kg, i have ridden the same seatpost for many a year now, no prob at all.
maybe the glue man had a good day that day..

Hmm. Will certainly keep an eye out if they go cheap, they do look tasty. Have a thing for that dura ace logo.
Sadly aero posts aren't very NJSy though make up the vast amount of reasonable shimano posts.
Nitto s65 looks like the best option for now.
^ hope your post stays together

There is also the Da 7400-a which is not aero but fluted and is quite nice. The 7400 series seatposts aren't very long I think however

Try and hunt down a Ritchey Classic Polished post. Seems to have disappeared in 27.2mm, but it's a classic looking post with a decent clamp and comes in proper lengths. Not Japanese though...

for me, thomson is always a good choice ;)
-

How about a Suntour Superbe Pro. cheaper, longer, njs-er.
echo'ing above really, but the Dura Easton non/NJS really are a bit sketchy. I've had a couple that have had movement. In theory you could add extra bonding internally for peace of mind, but ain't nobody gat time..and somehow despite the design flaw, they are still generally expensive. look nice i guess.
The DA 7400 fluted is a lovely thing, totally solid, but short. then you'd have to have the matching stem
thomson works always and for any saddle rail and will never slip.

OK so, these are the options:
NITTO S65
not dura ace
reasonable price, japanese, can be bought long
DURA ACE EASTON
Expensive, sometimes breaks
looks very nice
DURA ACE 7400-A
Often short, has flutes
Solid
RITCHEY CLASSIC
Not japanese
looks nice, is long
THOMPSON
Not japanese
Reliable
SUNTOUR SUPERB PRO
Not dura ace
NJS + japanese, can be longer, "cheaper", looks nice -

I'd go with the Ritchey, if it has to be Japanese the Nitto is a solid second.
-
• #90
Thanks for the help, all good options but I am keen on keeping it Japanese so for me really between the Nitto and the Suntour.
Nitto is looking like the most viable option so far due largely to price. In mean time Ill find out what height my seatpost actually has to be.

I read in an earlier post you wanted Kashimax five gold so unless you buy one of the older models with 44 mm width the new models are all 30 mm rails as they are designed for use with Nitto jag which is the popular choice for NJS .
You should also be aware that both Suntour Superb Pro and Nitto Crystal Fellow are 44 mm rail width as is another option Sugino Mighty should you go down that route . -
• #92
Ahh. Thanks, that's very useful. Ill check the fivegold.
-
• #93
Kashimax Aero is a much nicer saddle for look and butt feels. But that's just my opinion, I never got on with the Five Gold when I owned one. Padded Aero is perfect for this.
-
• #94
Also, don't put a Thomson on this. Please. Unless it goes with your new paint scheme...
-
• #95
Everything goes with the new paint skeme.
No won't be going with Thomson.
Re the kashimax aero; they do look very nice but cost like three times as much.
Maybe when its all done I'll give it a try. -

I bought a cheap Aero that had been stripped (god knows why the guy who did it didn't just buy the hard version anyway) and repadded and covered it myself. Think it cost me £10 for the saddle, £5 for leather offcuts, £something for some padding and glue and £2 or £3 for some Kashimax Aero 'gold leaf' decals to complete the look. Not bad if you have patience and a bit of crafty skills.
-
• #97
Wouldn't mind that, would have thought it would be hard to come by a stripped aero. I'll keep an eye out.
The fivefold has a width of 44mm, so that good.

Fivegold was the most uncomfortable saddle I've ever used. Would stay away from that one.
-
• #99
I have a five gold saddle with a S65 seatpost. Yes it's not as comfortable as a worn in brooks but it's not that bad. My Vintage Cinelli Unicanitor is far less comfortable but still okay to ride on for a couple hours.
If you're after used parts I might be selling the seatpost and saddle as I'm going to go Jaguar seatpost and Nagasawa Kashimax saddle. I'll check the insertion and the scratch marks. -

Hmm. I think ill have have to give the fivegold a go. Ive pretty much committed to it and it shouldn't be a very expensive mistake.
^PMing re seatpost
Any ideas of what to do for a seat post.
Not too keen on getting an njs one cause of money and its a seat post.
Do wanna have it Japanese. It needs to be quite long as well.
