  • brake drop of SRAM Apex - comparable to Shimano BR-561?

looks deep enough for my purpose, but no specs on SRAM website...

  • Because everyone is going cray cray about the heat, and I always imagine nuclear style explosions coming from my bike. Inspired by my Son's water balloon exploding on the windowsill...

Should I under-inflate my tires before I head out? What would be the pressure increase between 140psi at 20C and riding on black tarmac this afternoon?

  • 140 is loads.

Yep, hence my slight worry. It's for track though, not a pootle around the Surrey hills.

  • Got a spare RH shifter I can sort you with for less than 80.

  • It's too hot to ride bikes anyway, just deflate them and sit somewhere cool.

  • It's for track

Surely you can borrow a track pump when you get to the velodrome?

  • The amount of times I see people "just put a little more" in and end up having half what they started with after giving up.

Just looked into them triathlete types who leave their bike in transition, shouldn't be more than a 10psi rise apparently.

  • Cheers for the answers but I don't think I was clear. I'm not looking for more secure QR skewers, I'm looking for decent, cheapish anti-theft skewers (pinhead, pitlok, etc).

I know they have their limitations but what's the best of a bad bunch?

  • dunno. iirc velosolo has extensive info on their website covering the topic op disc hub to fixed cog conversion. i reckon you have 130mm dropouts?
makes sense that the wider bb would work with gears again, double chainring bbs tend to be wider then those for single ones.

just check on velosolo the resulting chainline. what kind of chainset you running?

  • Boyle's Law?
Some assumptions needed regarding air temperature in the tire - say 50C (273+50=323K) for example - and that the internal volume of the tire remains constant.

    likely pressure when hot = 140x323/293 = 154psi
    or
    starting pressure to give 140psi when hot = 140x293/323 = 127psi

The flaw in the argument is an assumed temperature - the real answer would be to check the actual pressure this afternoon. An even bigger problem is I've just noticed the time - you're probably not going to see this until you get back, in which case you'll know the answer...

  • Nah, still at work :)
I was imagining a much bigger swing in pressure, the water balloon was quite spectacular.

  • Awesome, how much would you be thinking?

  • £30-40? Ill check the condition but might have to wait a week as I think I left it in my backup parts box at my parent's place.

  • SRAM Apex max caliper reach, anyone know?

  • anyone knows who stocks stronglight road chainrings in London?

  • That sounds great, send me a PM when we know and we can have a chat. I'm not in any particular hurry.

  • SRAM Apex max caliper reach, anyone know?

SRAM knows, download the tech doc from their website. I think it's called something like "Frame Interface Dimensions" and has very detailed guides to stuff like that, including how much the drop is affected by the axle offset relative to the brake mounting face.

  • 3/32" 18t sprocket needed.

No-one stocks 3/32" Phil Wood in the UK and I can't stomach USD98 to order direct.

Dura Ace don't come that large and Hubjub no longer stock 3/32" EAI.

All I can find are Andel/Surly and I've had trouble with tooth profile in the past, or Velosolo's own brand... in gold FFS.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi are there any good platforms or inserts for SPDs so I can cycle with normal shoes instead of bike shoes? I know I can get two sides SPDs with a flat side however I like the pedals I currently have just want the insert for the ever so often bike ride with nomal shoes. Thx

  • Did you try to email Euro Asia Import directly?

  • I haven't: the last time I enquired (about something else), they directed me to a bike shop in the US, rather than selling direct.

An email costs nothing, but I'd guess shipping will be prohibitive.

  • A few years ago I had a bike I ordered online delivered with
Spds and these plastic flat bits that clipped into the spd's to turn one side into flats... Would recommend but not sure what to search for...

  • Yes, they will probably redirect you to a reseller... but it might result cheaper than Phil Wood!
Did you check at Condor as well? They usually stock few PW cogs, maybe a 3/32" is still laying there waiting to be sold :)
Other option for EAI can be BLB, as I think they have a decent stock... but not sure if they ever ordered cogs at that pitch!
