But then your back to just running regular flats with straps. Ie why have a more expensive clipless pedal, cleat, and adaptor.
I guess it works best if like Dom you have one pedal système on all your bikes, or if you only have one bike you use for everything. Although in the later case I'd just have double-sided shimano pedals like most people do.
Still I want some for some unknown reason.

I'm talking about this;

Is there a cheaper alternative to those restraps? £30 is a bit much
-
• #9830
they last forever though. Money well spent in my books.
buy cheap, buy twice.

I know I know... I guess the original 'powergrips' ones are just as expensive. I shall htfu.

mine have lasted 4 years so far on my daily beater

your saddle is slammed forward but u have a layback post, you might be better off with an inline post! /internetbikefit
lovely though, wanted a croix de fer for time and I love my cambium. -

Those pedal adapters look alright, tempted for the Argos so I can run Atacs commuting then stick them on for running into town etc, atm though just running flat pedals on it (too much overlap with the guards to runs toe clips) but not really 100% convinced by them, as it probably only takes twice as much time to switch pedals over... And then you've got no compromising.
Probably just dig out a pair of restraps and fit them.

Spotted on a Manchester street, no idea of its pedigree but looks fun..... Where's the functional x rat bikes thread...?!

The fit is far from 'dialled', this was just a post I had knocking about, but I'm still playing with stem length/saddle height. I also can't work out whether I get on with the cambium, it just feels too hard and wide (oo er) to me.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the Cambium - I'm also currently going through a period of trying to get mine set up properly (also on a Croix de Fer). It seems very sensitive to position. You have to be perfectly central on it to get the hammock effect. Too far back and you're on the back-plate and get no bounce. Too far forward and all your weight is on your gooch. I'm also struggling with level. What seems fairly flat becomes very nose-high when you sit on it and the carcass flexes.

I normally ride Ariones and shift about a bit on them. I've never got on with any Brooks (apart from a 1950s Professional which is wonderful) as I find them too sensitive to position (as you say).
It's just SO much wider than an Arione, and that combined with the sticky weather today made it incredibly uncomfortable even just down to the shop. It felt fine this morning; comfy, even.
I've shifted it back a bit from that photo and it does seem a bit better, but I need to keep fettling!

Another option is Timtas.
TimTas offers lovely custom bags and randonneur/trekking racks. Check out his work. (His links on the website are very interesting as well.)
You will find his website here: http://timtas.nl/en/

I absolutely love my Cambium. I've just had to swap it from my daily commuter to another bike. I'm now using a B17 but I'm not getting on with that at all.

Double dyno. What a slapper!

Cheers. But as you said when I need to I just use trainers.
On another note, I thought here would be the best place to ask about a small front rack. I want to put a basket on my better half's bike. It's an old Galaxy with front rack bosses.
Before I've used one of those little stabiliser brackets that hangs down from the headset. This time I was thinking a small front rack might be more stable and neater.
So does anyone have any suggestions / recommendations? It needs to be silver and a boss for a light bracket further down the line would be good. I'd rather not pay Nitto / VO money. Moon on a stick? Or is there something out there?
Cheers.

I'm running a Wald basket on Nitto M18 with zip ties, works fine. Would need to DIY a light bracket though.
BLB do a similar looking basket+mini rack combo for about £65, no idea if there's a light bracket, should be easy to make something though...
Plenty of other mini racks available and with varying amounts of DIY or ovencleaner to make them fit the silver/light requirements. Unsure which supermarket has shiniest silver baskets these days...

Hmmmm so all of them are c£60? Seems excessive to spend half the cost of the bike on something that will sit under a basket.
Boss for a light is a bonus rather than a must.

Seems that way...
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/alloy-front-carrier-cantilever-boss-mounting-black-alloy-prod14021/ + tesco basket + elbow grease is probably your cheapest solution... assuming the frame has canti bosses anyway.

Hey functional nerds, does the master blaster frame pump fit without pump pegs? I asked sjs, but they haven't replied.
sorry - edited for brain fart.
Depend I guess, a fixed with low gearing, sweep back and a front brake would be fine with big MTB flat pedals.
I think big strap would be fine for everyday riding.
