Another time perhaps?
I am playing guitar and singing accompianied by @rickster on guitar and a non forumite bandmate on accordion. We're usually a four piece with accordion, banjo, female BVs and upright bass but the latter two weren't available so I roped Rickster in to help out. Here's a recording I did played everything on before we got the upright player to record. https://elvers.bandcamp.com/track/the-last-great-auk Will be mixing three tracks featuring bull-fiddle tonight. Cheers.

Classic. Need two short speaker cables cost approc £6 each but out of stock most places. Decide to "save money" by making my own. Spend alsmot £90 on parts, tools and other bits.
Going to have to make a lot of cables to claw back that outlay. Anyone want to place an order with me for any guitar/mic leads?>
I've been soldering balanced cables like a mofo recently. WestEnd DJ (between Oxford St and TCR) have very decent mic(balanced) cables at good prices (much better than maplin). Then Maplin for the male and female plugs.

I've just seen this. Yeah, another time for sure!
I'll have a listen when I'm not at work.

Just picked up a Blue Robbie (the most butterz) mic pre. The shite design means it sells at good second hand prices. Also got a Pamela's Workout. Really excited about getting into euclidean rdims...

I'm not going to pretend to understand what's going on there. It sounds fun though.
I watched all of LArry Crane's Lynda vids a while back. They were pretty cool. I still dig Tape Op.

Dudes, luddite question: I'm trying to upload some stuff to spotify and it needs to be a 16 bit 44.1khz WAV file. The master file of the track I have says it's at a WAV with a "total bit rate"of "2,116,800". It must be a whopper as it" 56MB but i'm not sure where to start converting it. Google is confusing me.
Also, any recommendations or warnings for aggregation services. Are any better than others or to be avoided?
-
• #685
That's a 24-bit bit rate. Import it into logic/pro tools etc etc and export it as 16/44.1. Use dither if you're pernickety.

Ah. righto. Will do. Cheers.
What's dither?
-
• #688
I love explaining dither, but it'd definitely be TL;DR if I did. Basically, gets rid of some bad noises that going from 24- to 16-bit produces, though it's all at such a low level that it's no big thing.

I've got mixes of thee tracks from the studio and i'm not sure if i'm happy with any of them. They're close to being great but I'd like to have one last stab at Eqing the low end and sitting the vocals in the mix a bit better. Might ask for the audio files but then again that would mean starting from scratch and the tweaks I want are minor really.... Think I'll pop back for a couple of hours.

Just seen this thread for the first time. Here's some old stuff I've made... Been slack and haven't worked on anything new in awhile.

Nice.
I got a call from a buddy who runs an music agency yesterday who needed a new piece for a pitch ASAP. I had a free afternoon so spent it working out and recording recording a version of the theme tune from Golden Girls in the style of Tom Waits for an advert selling Japanese cars to Germans.
It wasn't quite Waits in the end to be honest. How weird can you make "Thank You for Being a Friend" ffs? But it was in a vaguely folky banjo led style. The money was good but I actually hope it never sees the light of day. I actually feel dirty.

Although I also feel proud that I managed to plunk my way though all of the cheesy 80s minor 9th chords on the banjo in the key of G#.

Toying with buying some cheap mics and replacing capsules from microphone parts. Anyone had experience? This guy does an NT1-a mod that sounds fun.
http://www.oktavamodshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=145
I have an NT1-a gathering dust that i'm unlikely to ever use in it's original state. Worth a go for £200? Or Am I better off just getting some hald decent bits by SE etc?
To clarify: I have already splurged on a super nice valve LDC as my main vocal mic. What I'm after is a locker of useable, affordable alternatives and for micing instruments etc etc.

I would have thought more flavours is more useful than an upgrade, especially if you already have a really good LDC. £200 should get you something nice by SE, especially used...
-
• #698
yeah but I have an NT1a and I can't see myself using again as is. Maybe i'll buy a capsule and have a go myself? *nevergoingtohappen

Loving the baked beans. Essential damping.
That sounds great, and I would potentially play for pizza, but I can't this Sunday. Thanks for the offer! Are you playing? And what do you play?
