Dunno about shiny being faster, Matt Bottrill is pretty quick.

Ain't that simple. It depends where the shiny bit is and where the matte bit is though.

I have seem people smothering themselves in baby oil at races before so wondered if this was material or just a waste of effort!
It used to be spray Pam or other lube stuff to make it easier to get the wet suit off.
Is that what you are seeing?

on the basis that shiny = fasterer than matt, baby oil would erode the plastic but silicone oil would be the more sensible solution for making things shiny - but I suspect the amount is probably small....
