Alfine 8 / 11? Nexus, if you're on a budget? Or acquire a geared beater?
Older dérailleurs came with integrated hangers, if you don't mind friction shifters?
The hangers that look like chain tugs look fairly robust though.

you could use those old derailleur hangers with a newer derailleur easy enough, theyre just screwed in or held with a circlip.
i would put a big washer in between the faces just to help with the gaps in the different dropout shape etc
New ad hoc job means silly hilly commute. So I'm looking at Rohloff, which is silly expensive.
I've seen dérailleur attachment things......any good?
