  • Demi-baguettes - what does that mean? ie. would that be big or small?

  • half a normal baguette

  • There was a surprising amount of discussion about eating baguettes on the US rando google group thing including this "top"-tip... https://groups.google.com/d/msg/randon/SnqUG4txI5U/4znWn_4M_iEJ

  • Is this so that the filling spills down your jersey to be licked off later when you get a bit peckish?

  • Further up somewhere there was a post about storing baguettes in your jersey pocket as they soften up and become easier to eat... I think they described it as "pre digesting"...

  • No, the baguette would be cut into from the side, so eating it upsidedown the filling would still face the side.

I get what they are saying - when the loaf rises it splits and is rough whereas the bottom is not. Actually makes sense.

    Actually clever idea.

  • To test this hypothesis, healthy men and women (n = 12; age = 22–50 y)

Does that mean they only tested 12 people?

  • Yeah, I've asked him about that.

  • ^^

  • Maybe ...........but then what is Demi more - kind of half of a greater amount - of baguette? Sorry. It's friday and I want to go home.

  • I take some whey protein and a liter of green veggie juice with an apple and 2 carrots in there for some extra carbs. Good post ride stuff.

  • Whey+milk post ride is meant to be very good. Carbs and protein in one delicious* drink

*actualy deliciousoucity may depend on chosen brand of whey

Also fish oil. Fish oil is meant to be one of the few genuine supplements that help recovery.

  • Nitrates/ites have been known to give pretty big gains for a whole, haven't they? I believe the more trained you are, the less the gains are though. Which is a pity, but not enough of a pity to stop me farting around with the juicer.

  • There's been studies that have suggested yes, and studies that have suggested no.

  • Omega 3 reduces inflammation.

  • Whey+milk...

... seems excessive: babies get all they need from milk alone and studies demonstrate that choccy milkshake is on a par with commercial recovery drinks.

Protein supplements are for bodybuilders, not cyclists.

I can get a three tins of pilchards, or two of tuna, from my pound shop: no need for fish oil supplements either.

    OMG

    Where to start...

  • Nutritional equivalent of 'aero doesn't matter that much in time trialling'

  • Shoot: I'm listening...

  • How so?

Perhaps not very well phrased but my point is that, assuming you're not on a contract, very few cyclists need supplements and can get all the nutrition they need from their diet.

  • You can go fast in time trialling by having fucking loads of power and just blasting it, or you can be smart, get aero and go faster.

You might be able to get everything you need from your diet, but supplements are much easier and less faff.

I'm down with this attitude. Fuck supplements.

I can't see the sense in eating rubbish, then offsetting that with supplements.

You have to eat anyway, so why not eat well? Anyone who says they don't have the time to eat well, needs to rethink their priorities.

I'll take 40,000 years of modern human evolution, over commercial interests every time.

  • What high protein, high carb food would you recommend that I eat immediately after a ride then that is easier + cheaper than a scoop of whey protein, milk and a banana in a blender? Geniune Q.
