• Interesting "Hydration & Aerodynamics" article from Cervelo.

Mounting a bottle B(etween)TA(rms) looks like a win, empty or not, but I don't see anyone doing this: is it because people tend to have the extensions so narrow, that the arms are effectively one unit now, doing the same thing as the bottle?

Thinking about what they say on B(ehind)TA(rse) bottles taming the airflow off the back, is this what Specialized were thinking with the Sitero? The (fixed) position certainly isn't the easiest from which to pluck a bottle.

Similarly, the Selle Italia Iron has a fairing, but I'd think the blunt tail wasn't particularly good in this regard.

  • A bottle behind the saddle is aero neutral really.

That Selle Italia saddle is silly. No way that back end has an effect, and the shape seems all wrong for extension riding. They are on clearance everywhere. Probs for this reason.

The Sitero seems well thought out. Mental angle on the bottle though.

I have a Fizik Tritone on order. I was thinking of using the bottle holder attachment to hold the shit my tri-leotard wont. So a Wind jacket stuffed in one bottle With a multitool, and water in the other. With a pump Mount on each. One holding micro pump, and one a latex canister. Hopefully between the bottles.

  • Only two? For shame...

Which is what makes me think it is positioned like that for aerodynamics, rather than ergonomics.

The thinking behind the Tritone looks to be the opposite: ie the bottles are positioned to be easy to grab in a tuck, rather than act as a tail.

It has the effect of making the total length of the saddle comply with UCI regulations.
