Nexus 4 is again desperate for me to bury it under the digital soil. Random shutdowns at various points of the day, false battery statistics (ie it's at 40%, turns off and after putting on charge and powering on is at 0%).

Try flashing it with a new ROM.
Anything in particular that's close to stock Android? I tried once but failed to do whatever I wanted and went back to factory defaults.
Moto X does look mighty tempting...
