  • Such. A. Lush. Frame. I think the kanji all over it are bloody excellent. And handmade too.

Shame you've had to paint over them. Ah well.

  • Thanks all.

Shame you've had to paint over them. Ah well.

What options did I really have. Also just realised I forgot to tape up/remove the chromed area of chainstay and the headset. That's a real shame.

  • So i put on my set of B123s. This is essentially what the cockpit will be.
May get a slimmer b123aa to match the stem.

I think that due to the amount of white on the frame i should be keeping the amount of silver quite low and for that reason am verging on the side of fully taped bars (in black).

  • Or get black components. Silver might look better once you've repainted it though.

  • Not feeling the black. Should be fine with full tape.

I actually took these pictures before painting it. I think for the actual build ill just leave the bars without tapes or grips, will be proper porno.

  • It needs orange Ourys, with risers obvs. Really glad you've painted it. That squigly writing just screams "Made in Taiwan" and who want's that cheap stuff?

  • My thoughts exactly

  • I bought some original decals for my Reminton for when I get it resprayed. I plan to do it in twenty years and only if it needs it.
If only four people have Kalavinkas, I'd like to know how many people in the UK have a Reminton.
Great frame by the way. Glad the dents aren't an issue. Nice to get a large NJS you like.

Are you sure, I could do it for you; I have rattlecans in all the primary colours.

Thanks. Remington's are pretty rare, tbh I didn't realise how rare kalavinka are but hey ho.

I am trying to buy a kashimax five gold saddle in black but seller hasn't got back to me yet.
Don't know exactly what to do crank wise, ideally would like to get some njs dura ace cranks for £60 but can't do it ATM.
I also may have found some potential pedals.
I think I'll put off buying the new bars unless some come up, I have PMd multiple people about them but no replies. Still wanting to gget some in 36-38cm.
    This will be slow.

  • I have a Kashimax Fivegold I'm not getting on with. Let me know if the other sale falls through.

  • Thanks.
I think he was last online five days I pmd him I think 3 days ago so. We've spoken before about it and I'm in no rush so I'd expect I'll happen.

  • so you did repaint it?

  • yeah
here it is dry. I put a blb logo on the frame to establish some quality heritage to it.

(For anyone who hasn't figured it out yet I am being sarcastic. I have no intention of repeating the frame)

  • hehe

  • hazdizbinpaintedyet?

  • In the mean time, does anyone know what kind of tubing is commonly used by kalavinka or what tubing may be used on the frame. Toshi from njs export didn't know.
I'll take some measurements and find the weight tomorrow but I think the down tube and seat tube are wider than the others. Ring any bells?

  • hazdizbinpaintedyet?

Did you not see my shameless boastpost of my most recent triumph (^^^^^)

  • fwkh0328@mb.infoweb.ne.jp

Maybe worth sending an email to kalavinka directly? dont recall ever seeing one with tubing decals

  • fwkh0328@mb.infoweb.ne.jp

I take it thats his email. Will do.

  • So got a reply:

    About the tubes of TA100527,
Main tube set is Kaisei 8630, Ni-Cr-Mo, 0.8-0.5-0.8mm thickness. But down tube is 8630R, 0.7-0.5-0.7mm.
    Best regards,

    So yeah, kaisei tubing.
So all tubes are Kaisei 8630 Ni-Cr-Mo, bar the down tube which is kaisei 8630R. Both seem to be mid/high range tubing judging by their price and are both oversize tubesets.

So I think the sizes are as follows:
    Top Tube 28.6
    Down Tube 31.8
    Seat Tube 28.6
    Head Tube 31.8
    Seat post 27.0

Seems odd as the TT looks smaller than the ST. Plus the seat post diameter is defo 27.2. The measurement given, 27, was only a recommendation though.

This is quite interesting with regard to how the frames design came about.

  • As for paint there's plenty of options.

Problem is, the quality of the paints from the NJS stamped bicycle are quality compared to the UK, especially when lead have been removed recently.

  • would like to get some njs dura ace cranks for £60

    Where does this happen?

  • eBay - PhilThePowerTaylor or from NJS Export website. Pretty sure they are one and the same. Kitted out my Reminton in NJS finery for a total of £120 for Nitto stem, seatpost and Dura Ace cranks and chainring.

  • ^this

They certainly look very similar (backgrounds) but i swear the prices by phil for the cranks are much lower, and free postage. Also seem to be less frames on the bay.

Definitely a bargain to be had if you already have the NDS crank arm
