  • Another tough 23 miles on the trails around Gower this morning, baking hot to halfway and then raced the cold, rainy weather front back home to Mumbles.

Nice to be getting some hills in after all the flat marathon training, over 6000 feet of climbing last week and over 3000 feet just today.

  • Yeah man. Dread ^
Last 8 km reps done before Sunday.
Will see what the day brings

    Miles in the legs

  • I won't be going for sub-40. Ain't got it in me. Gonna be aiming for a PB and hoping I can handle the increased temps this w/e

  • Having only done long slow runs recently I was a little worried about racing 10k today. Knocked over a minute off my course Pb which has thrown all my ideas about training out the window :D

Hay Hotfooters Magic Roundabout 10k is a trail race everyone should do at least once in their lifetime. Stunning 360 degree views over the Begwyn hills, best race Tee shirt out there and loads of free tea and cake afterwards, doesn't get much better :)

  • Ran. Enjoyed. Talked to Kenyan and Uganda winners after. Nice day. 40.41. Not p.b but happy with it.

  • Excellent time though.
PB for me 42.07. Lovely day for a run.

  • Swansea Half Marathon today, ran it as a training run as all I've been doing is slow, slow runs and also didn't want to re-injure myself before the ultra in 3 weeks.

Chatted to people and generally had a great time so I was really surprised to come home in 1:28:48, guess these long runs are doing something after all :)

  • Test run 6 weeks since partial collapsed lung.

Slow and steady, made it round ok, will see if any effect in coming days.

  • But late, but I got a camel bak for a work run/cycle thing, I really like it... But it does depend on the pack. I've tried six different bags (3 camel bak and 3 others)... It's worth the extra money for better ones.
Also I really like the lumbar camelbak, water sits on the hips which is more comfortable than shoulders.
Also great for mountain biking, I keep loosing bidon's to bumpy trails...

I am a bit of a sweaty fat bloke though!

Congratulations @rhb, running's bloody hard enough with normal lung power!

  • For £20 I'm giving the Mountain Warehouse one a go: http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/running-cycling/bike-accessories/bike-bags/raid-hydro-bag-5l-p7079.aspx?cl=RED

Usual 10k loop to do today, swim early tomorrow morning (first in ages) and then 2 hours of 5-a-side in the evening, rest on Wednesday and then HM commute in Thursday, 5-a-side that evening and then pub. Will have to see about 100km cycle I have planned for Friday.

  • Raced a 5k tonight. Technically a 5k PB although I have run a 10 where both halves were quicker than tonight (hills etc).

    Came 6th also.

  • 2nd HM commute (trying to do one a month). Still slow and 2 mins slower than the first but HR down A LOT.

    1st was 6:08/km and HRavg 172bpm
today was 6:14/km and HRavg 160bpm

Progress. Next HM commute on 9th July.

  • 19.38 in corfe mullen carnival 5k,
    thatll do

  • 28.5 miles around Gower this morning with 3500 ft of climbing. Best run so far, felt good all the way around but got a second wind at 20 miles and felt great all the way home.

12 miles planned for tomorrow, Caerphilly 10k on Sunday then sleep :D

  • I ran the South Downs Relay Marathon yesterday with friends. A well organised event and a great route - would definitely recommend.

  • Managed to crack 40 minutes for 10k the second time on Saturday at the end of an Olympic distance friends, and wasnt very much slower than I did a park run a few weeks ago over half the distance....

Not sure what I need to do next, as my main aim is longer stuff so I guess it's good that I don't slow down, but wonder whether more top end speed would be useful!

  • Longest run done and dusted 31 miles with 3,554 feet of climbing a lot of which was sand dunes. Felt pretty good at the end but must admit the thought of doing it all over again was pretty daunting.

Just over two weeks to the race so a couple of nice easy weeks now :)

  • Dulwich runners 5k last night. @PhilPub from here nearly won. I think he was beaten by a RDC member. Excellent support as always from the RDC, I was pretty cynical about them and their links with Nike but the more i see of them the more i like.

This shorter stuff is harder on the legs than the long stuff.

  • @Sainsburys_Ed respect to the sub 40

  • This running lark just got a whole heap more expensive, I won a pair of Adidas Adizero Boost 2.0 shoes a few weeks ago. I was hoping they would be pants as I really don't want to be paying that much for a running shoe.

First run in them this morning on tired, tired legs and I already know I've found my new running shoe of choice :) went out to run 6 miles to test them out and ran 15 as I was having so much fun :)

  • You'll just have to win more pairs...

  • 10k PB for me on the weekend at 52mins, which is considerably slower than all your times! Come on Tim!

  • In bright orange I hope?

  • Unfortunately not, very plain grey with green and pink bits.

  • Shoe question.

Tldr: what trail shoe should I get to run around in the Lake District? (In/on?)

Bit more info: so far in the last 12 years of running I've had 2 running specific shoes, about ten years ago a pair of Nike Pegasus that I'm still using! And some aisics that I got about a year and a half ago and are falling appart already.
I'm 17 stone, don't run that fast... Will be carrying a backpack, so I'm not sure how important lightweightness is...

I don't know if I pro/prenate, but my gait changes masively depending on how tired I'm feeling.

    Suggestions?
