Gearing could feel a bit high ( although I've seen higher used there ). I've been on 55" on all the previous rides, but will be trying out 52" this time around, so maybe I can get a little further up the hills before I get off and push.
Helmet is entirely up to you: You're not going to find yourself plummeting down near-vertical rock faces in Epping Forest. I see that you've ridden the Fort William DH course on a rigid-forked Karate Monkey, so your skills will already be light years ahead of mine :-)
@dicki might be able to suggest a decent route from Stratford?
I've had retrobikes, skip finds and brakeless fixie-skidders on these rides and they've mostly been ok....
As for
"country bumpkin"
I live in semi-rural Norfolk.
Been eyeing this up.
Got some questions.......
It's sunday night and just heard from work that it's very quiet and have the week off.......so instead of smashing myself up at the Clunker classic next saturday (which could still happen if i get called back that way) i find myself in Kent for the week.
However, the bike is not quite right, 42x18 ss on 28c road tyres and no helmet with me.
Halfords down the road so could get a cheapo lid and some conti cx race tyres, i do have the wider handlebars (see picture 2) and some bits with me, but not ideal cycling gear.
Unfit, not ridden proper for ages and it looks like getting a train into stratford international and chopping up through the olympic village is my route to chingford, not a londonenger so unused to public transport as it's bad out in the sticks.
Armed with that information, stay away this time ? and try when better prepared.
Or maybe have a country bumpkin turn up for you lot to take the piss out of.
