  • is there anywhere in London I might be able to buy an aeropress filter cap?

    just one of these -

  • Prufrock, maybe? They have a pretty extensive retail selection.
I would say Coffee Hit would be the best bet (online) but it looks like they are out of stock at the moment.

  • I have a spare if you can pick it up from New Cross.

  • Dear all iberital Mc2 grinder owners ( @TTM )

Do you have the doser version or the normal one? Am i right in thinking the doser just chucks out a 7g grind each time? Is it worth the extra ££?

I guess it makes life a bit easier as although I'm a bit of a coffee geek, I've not got to the depths (or heights!?) of weighing stuff yet.

  • I've just got the normal one. When I dial in new beans, I play with the timer on it so it grinds 8g each time. It's really good and definitely worth getting if you're making coffee most days.

  • Thanks dude. I definitely want one just not sure if i should go doser or no-doser. Are they hard to dial in?

  • I recommend using cheap bottled water with these, and not descaling by the way

Seconded. I get the cheapest spring water that Sainsbury's do, I think it is about 27p for a litre and a half.

  • I found it tricky to dial in at the beginning, but practice helps. I used to order different coffee each week, but got bored of dialling in each time. Now I stick with one that I really like.

  • @jim1985 I'd +1 everything @TTM says.

No doser just adjust timing to weight needed. Dialling in was a ok but full of warnings that waranty is void if you overdo it, so I was careful to only gradually wind the burrs in. Took alot of play to get it right, but now it's spot on and only needs little change as I too now stick with same blend for espresso, tho it changes seasonally. Dialling in for different beans each time would be a chore.

  • Ive lost the bastard little black rubber plug for my Gaggia that sits in the portafilter, underneath the basket.

I've ordered one from a supply shop place before after someone on here pointed me to the website and said what the thing is.... anyone got any ideas? I've forgotten.

PLEASE HELP! I need espresso! Got an aeropress and V60 but not in the mood for them now

  • ^ Ignore, crisis over. It's a 'crema filter pin' should anyone care

  • ^ is that essential? surely it'd still work without?

In other news Coffeecircle has become Heart & Graft and is roasting on a bigger scale. Picked up some Peru beans of theirs which have worked well in aeropress and stovetop so far.

  • Better without it. A silly gimmick

  • @rhb @danb when I tried to pull a shot before I realised I'd lost it (was cleaning the machine yesterday) coffee spunked out of the portafliter at all angles and spayed everywhere, so yes, necessary.

  • I've never had one of those. Maybe adjust your grind and tamp a bit harder to compensate?

  • Machine recommendations for an office.

    Information you need:

    • 100 staff
    • A very small minority know coffee
    • 50-75% would like nice coffee

I'm thinking of abandoning the very few to their Aeropress, but installing a decent cafe grinder and using hotel style filter machines so that we can still get Square Mile beans but that we only provide pour over filter coffee... which no-one can fuck up.

Basically a pair of these: http://www.burco-lec.co.uk/burco-cffmfst-manual-fill-pour-over-coffee-maker-with-2-jugs-and-filters-444448558.php

  • So the real question is... what great, low-maintenance, no-one can fuck it up, coffee machines could be used in an office environment for approx' 100-125 coffees per day?

  • Is it a classic? Something very wrong if it does that without it...

  • Of course the alternative will be something like this:
    https://www.caffesociety.co.uk/nuova-simonelli-prontobar-bean-to-cup-coffee-machine

But I'm afraid that this will please no-one. The coffee aficionados will bemoan the automation, and the know-nothings will just think it's crap compared to Pret or Starbucks (because it's the hot milk foaming they care about and machines do this badly or rely on the skill of the user), and it will just lead to high maintenance costs down the road.

Shame, as it probably is the best... but high cost, high maintenance, and low appreciation means it's probably the worst choice.

  • Technivorm Moccamaster?

  • Taylor St Baristas - I work at the Bank branch so I might be able to get you a discount.

  • Have been using Pact coffee for a month now and I have to say, its not bad at all. My aeropress soy flat whites have been pretty decent.

  • I've got baskets that have the widget but don't use them. So you can shout if ever you need the widget but i'd suggest getting a normal basket.

  • Sounds a poisened challenge! If they're likely to pin the blame on you if it doesn't cut it for them I'd stay well away from trying to help.

Really? I pop in there almost every day, and if I don't go in there then one of my workmates does instead. The one behind the big wing thing right?
