  • I'm just shouting.
    SHOUTING.

  • LISTEN TO ME.
I'm WHITE AND MIDDLE CLASS AND EDUCATED.
NOBODY PAYS ANY ATTENTION TO ME.

  • Amazing. If not done already pls add to the 'draw my crash' thread. Where was the poo?

  • fucking hell. life is soooooo hard being a man.

  • Yes mingle with trucks as I do daily and I did once off the bus when I hit the road.

  • Go you.

How much did it inconvenience you to walk with the other pedestrians?

  • Schtaaaaaaahp

  • I can imagine pushing a bike along a ships narrow corridors would be pretty inconvenient for other people. Perhaps for a little shouty man like you it's easier.

  • It delayed me 20 mins, though that's not really the point. The point is why did they decide to class me as a ped, put me on a bus full of peds rather than let me ride my vehicle. It suggests that Stena do not consider a bike a vehicle

  • Generally not thinking I can do whatever the fuck I want and considering the situation around me tends to work best when I'm in among crowded places.

  • I AM NOT A PED!!

Jesus. And there we have it.

  • Should this be called pedgate?

  • Fucking pedalphiles

  • I really don't get your point (nor why you are shouting...)

  • My point is quite simple.
I think, your point is needlessly whiny.

  • So you really don't get my main point which is exploring how different people construe cyclists and bikes. Which interests me as a cultural phenomenon. (I get your point though)

Also interesting why you seem angry and shouty about this issue.. perhaps you feel challenged by this topic for some reason

  • The language you are using suggests you already have a view point and will be collecting evidence to support this.

For example, using jobs.. I mean guard. The language you are using in all of your descriptions all sound a bit "Points of View". Perhaps you should present your evidence in the style of Barry Took.

It's not how different people view cyclists and bikes. It's how corporations, for they're the ones who have decided when your bike (so precious) can come in and when it can't come in. It's actually people who are employed by these corps who bend/ignore the rules/turn a blind eye.
Perhaps, your theory, and evidence collecting would be better focused on the interactions you're having. Who are you interacting with? How much are they paid? What is their job satisfaction?

Rather than the cultural phenomenon of whether you can bring your fucking bike into a supermarket or not.

  • I'm not angry and shouty btw. It's a textual way of trying to have a joke.
    For example:
OH NOEZ I HAD TO BE LIKE THE OTHER PEOPLE AND WAIT 20 MINUTES BEFORE I COULD RIDE MY BIKE.

  • Places I've been refused to take my bike
    1) Inside Peckham library
    2) Brockwell lido, although they eventually relented once I convinced them I would go to the deep end
    3) Tanning salon
    4) Velodrome (I wasn't accredited)

  • I got my bike in to Peckham Library.

Clearly a class / race distinction thing going on here.

  • The language you are using suggests you already have a view point and will be collecting evidence to support this.

This is true I have a viewpoint and it's valid that you ask this. I construe a bike as a vehicle capable of speed and my riding skills good enough to mix it with lorries.

I am collecting these stories that illustrate other viewpoints equally as relevant

  • Riding off the ferry with the other traffic?
Yes that's a fucking great idea. Let's let bikes mingle in with great big trucks and other vehicles, emerging from a dark hole into bright light.

    Do you even ferry?

  • Do you even ferry?

  • No. But then when has that stopped anyone from commenting on anything ever?

  • I used the cashpoint on City Road, was off my bike and holding it by the bar stem, bloke behind me said "Cyclists off pavements". This was eight years ago but I don't dwell on it.
