Rear Brake Mount + Tyres

Posted on
  • Hi, I was just wondering whether or not it is possible to saw out the rear brake mount in order to install 25mm tyres instead of 23mm tyres. The fit is tight as it is as I'm using a track frame, and it doesn't take much to make the 23mm rub against the mount.

Would sawing the mount out affect structural integrity and make the rear triangle weaker?

  • What's the worst that can happen...

  • Remember, you might need to cut part of the seat tube out too to make enough room for the extra diameter.
Are you going 25c on the front too? You can afford to lose most of the fork crown I reckon...

  • I didn't think about the seat tube. It might not be worth all this mutilation of the frame for the sake of an extra 2mm of tyre. Hmm...
