Speedplay cleats

Posted on
  • Hi,
I've recently got a set of Speedplay zero pedals with the V2 cleats, even though the cleats were second hand and worn in I still found them quite stiff to clip in and release, I read somewhere on the net that if you stretched the cleat spring a little bit with pliers it made it easier. Like an idiot I tried this, it worked on one cleat but I've managed to snap the other cleat spring. So, I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that sold cleat spares or will I have to buy a new set? If anyone can tell me of anywhere or let me know of where I can get a old cleat it would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Many thanks. Gareth

  • I bought a set today as well believe it or not... Mine were so hard to clip in to I though my crank arm was going to snap off

  • I know! Whatever you do don't try and widen the cleat spring with pliers!!

  • For the amount the cost I can't believe the tension isn't adjustable

  • did you try greasing the C clip?

  • More grease helps a lot, I put new speedplays on the bike on my turbo, almost broke the floor trying to clip in!

  • Yeah, I added more grease. I'm only light weight which probably makes it harder aswell. If you's could keep me in mind if you know of anyone who's got an old set they might want to sell it would be great!!

  • Loosen the tension of the cleat screws. Also, twist your foot slightly side to side when pressing down.

I tried so hard to do it when I first got them, then I found the above advice and it became so straight forward.
