Do you have a quick link in the chain? A slightly bent link plate causes me weeks of WTFs.
This isn't a squeak, rattle or intermittent noise - it's a sustained grinding from the cog.
I can see the rollers pinging off the teeth and making a small noise if I do it slowly enough.
But I take your points on board.
