Seems like a great deal if you're in the market for an affordable steel framed road bike.
The 10 has Tiagra and Fulcrums for 499. Not bad.

Stretching the definition of Road Bike but there we go...
After a new bike for my girlfriend, to be used as commuter, weekend road rides and very light tourer .
General wants are: clearance for 28mm (or 32mm if possible) tyres, disc brakes (mechanical fine), rear rack mounts. And not too expensive. Easy eh?
Can be a "mens" bike if they do one small enough - partner is 5ft 4" - will need something around a 51.
Any ideas? Have been looking at the Pinnacle Arkose 1 Womens but £700 is pushing it.

Second hand?
Or a little more and get a kaffenback. Comes with Apex22, not 9sp sora
-
• #6831
THanks for the reply - Kaff is on the possibles list - not being able to test ride one in the size we'd want is worrying for me though - I don't really trust the measurements any manufacturer give out.

Ride something with similar geo? Just look at all the geo charts till you find a bike similar size and ride that.
For 700 you might be better going 2nd hand, get more for your money.

Yeah will take a look at second hand - hoping I find a 2014 croix de fer in size 50. That'd do it!

Apologies if this has been posted before:-

Hmm, that could be good for the Mrs, good shout.

For someone upgrading from an old steel road bike will there be much difference between similarly priced options from Dolan, Vitus, and Planet X/Viner? Or is anything else than Canyon or Rose just plain stupid, nowadays?

What are some of the best road racing frames with a standard threaded BB?
-
• #6838
bowman palace
-
• #6839
"PF86 bottom bracket"
And for press fit frames, no. CAAD10 beats it on every front.
-
• #6840
Pinarello Dogma F8. Bit pricey though.
-
• #6841
Apparently the Pinarello Dogma F8 is threaded... #blowthebudget
-
• #6842
oh shiz I thought it had BSA ..
Custom alu?
Spooky? Zanconato? Rock lobster? Singular/duratec?
Far east frames come with selection .. FM066 etc.
1 of 3 of my bikes has press fit (BB90) factory installed .. zero issues; I hardly ride it in bad weather though. But I get your point, DA9000 BSA BB is merely 65g (claimed) and £20.
-
• #6843
Yep, my CAAD10 with the BB30 has been fine with no problems (built by a bike shop), but I want to service everything myself and considering either sizing down to another CAAD10 with a Praxis convertor, or getting a frame with an easier to install and maintain BB.
-
• #6844
Just learn about BB30 and acquire tools and lots of threadlocker?
-
• #6845
It's surprisingly easy to service BB30, you just need to buy a couple more tools to do this.
-
• #6846
^this
Afaik the entry level Canyon frames have normal BSA. Cervelo s2 (and r3?) used to be BSA - might be bbright now though.
-
• #6847
Mine is BSA, but it's a 2012 model. The current ones are indeed BBright.

am off to san sebastian and feel like hiring a road bike for a day
Orbea Orca or Avant?
-
• #6849
Avant is endurance, Orca is race fit, which are you boy?
-
• #6850
From the fit data I sent you which would you say?
yep think I will persuade him to stretch budget to the btwin 500. He will also need a new set of tyres and maybe a service which will bring it nearer £400 than £300.
