Swinley forest has trails and bike hire. A simple train ride from London.

Peaslake in the North downs has some cracking riding around.
These guys rent mountain bikes. http://www.pedalandspoke.co.uk/
Also the village shop does the best pork and caramelised red onion pastry lattice. Best served warm after about 20 miles through the mud in February but available all year.

Depending on where you are in London, there's a few options.
For Epping Forest, there's bike hire at Go Further Cycling
Another option for North Downs bike riding is at Nirvana Cycles
Swinley Forest has bike hire too at Swinley Bike Hub
Swinley would be the easiest for a first-timer to navigate, as there are marked trails to follow. Epping is more varied, but it helps if you have some idea where you're going. The North Downs/Surrey Hills offers the most in MTBing near London and is great for a couple of full days riding, without having to go over the same sections of trail. I'd recommend taking a map though, to make the most of it.

I think you can buy one for SH from the shop in peaslake villiage - but you'll still miss the trails unless you really, really keep your eye out.

This takes in the Blue trail at Swinley and also Crowthorne Wood, which is off-piste, but a better more technical ride than Swinley's motorway trails.

Surrey - warning - shit loads of pedaling required, but rewarding.

Be warned - the back of Pitch hill is sketchy as fuck. For the brave / skilled.
My uncle who is really in to mtb wants to visit me in London. One of the days we want to go mountainbiking, but neither of us would have the bikes in London.
Where can we rent mountainbikes and go for some good trails?
Any advice would be welcome.
