It's a cross bike at the end of the day, and is on 35mm tyres so I'm sure it wouldn't be too much of an issue. Losing the panniers isn't an option but I'm definitely looking into seeking out some more solid off-road tracks

Crosser? Well, no bloody excuses then! Get dirty!*
*No, you've not pulled.

Lael caught the three guys at Poncha Springs last night, looks to have been up early to get away before them putting her in 7th place. Won't catch the front group but it'll be interesting to see if she manages to hold her current place!
JP moving again, Neil B asleep but both currently 105+ miles ahead of JPs record time!

Seb Dunne is most likely out of the race and... "apparently lucky to be in one piece after shearing his fork clean off while negotiating the Brazos" appears to be hiking back out to the road.

Cool that he's heading out on a steamtrain to source a new fork and get back on track when he can!

Josh Kato caught up with Neil and JP last night, looks like it's going to be an sprint finish at this rate!
Here's Josh's account from his attempt last year, good read, some excellent photos and a good idea what a tour divide diet consists of...! http://faroutwanderings.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/my-tour-divide-2014-story-ingredients.html
The gas station across the street provided me with a king's breakfast of 3 pizza pockets, 2 cheese and bean burritos, orange juice, Red Bull, a delicious shepherd's pie and something that the counter attendant identified as fried gizzards.

"Colorado is the most beautiful state so far. Cooler temps, cooler locals. Good riddance Wyoming."

Is it just me or do those forks look too skinny for the bike?

Watching the front of the race unfold is a bit like watching some kind of video game, I have to remind myself how hard they must actually be going.

This better have a happy ending... other than the amount of food he's eating the whole thing sounds fucking grim.

Inspiring riding, such a great effort from normal riders.
The videos from near the finish capture the joy and effort for the top 3 placingsGo Gabes
Road bikes can go off-road. Lose the panniers and ride down some forest trails or something. Obviously you'll struggle to do any XC stuff but it's not like you're totally confined to roads.
