Possibly an internet bike fit question here but has anyone found an SMP saddle alleviated pins and needles in their feet?

Move cleat back a bit.

• #529
Ah ok, I'll give it a try!
Why does this help?
-

That's cool, was on the off chance. Think after some reading that my best bet is a dynamic but i'll try one of the china full carbon ones just to test the shape. Or the Evo, will see what you say about that.

What is the cheapest road SMP?
I've seen both Composit and Dynamic for around 130-140e + shipping at Lordgun.

It worked out at £111 for me delivered, so actually a little less than a Fizik (we're talking them "revolutionised" kurve saddle).

Look on ebay. I got my forma for £60!

Moar testing.
I have to say that riding home yesterday I really noticed that my Arione was making me balance on the Root Of All Evil.

I remember you were saying how the versus model actually made you "relaxed" on the bike when you were using the hired bike I think in the U.S.
Your process is exactly the same as me.

Here's another Arione VS to SMP progress.
Still haven't got the SMP just right, but I'm getting nearer. -
• #537
Move it forward again.

After a very brief ride on 143mm Specialized Power I can report that its more comfortable than SMP. Mind you I never tried SMP with inline post. Both still very comfortable than Kurve Snake (of which I have 5).

I've got a fake carbon SMP (never fitted) and I'm currently running a 155mm Romin. Will the fake SMP work for my arse, or will I need some kind of wider SMP for my miles apart sitbones?
Worried to take the Romin off and mess about in case I can't find that (relatively) sweet spot again if the SMP doesn't work out.

I don't know about the copies but the real carbon smps are pretty narrow saddles.
I have a romin 143 that i feel perhaps is a tad wider than the smps i have. My smps range from 129 mm to 138mm wide. The carbon is 129 i think, or similar. But percieved width also has a lot to do with shape so you really don't know till you try it.

Asking strangers on the internet how your butt will feel is certainly the way forward.

• #542
Touch it!
-
• #543
Yeah, it looks very narrow, comparatively. I'll have to give it a go someday soon, will maybe just stick it on another seatpost so I don't have to remove the current saddle and dick about setting it up again if I don't like it.

PM'ed.
-
• #545
Seriously tho...
The reason this is a stupid question is: SMPs are narrow for a rotated pelvis because a rotated pelvis is narrower as it rotates. Confused? Don't be, just try one.
-
• #546
Looks like a lot more of a standard shape saddle, might be more forgiving when the saddle isn't set up just right
-
• #547
Long story cut short - you don't sit with your sitbones on those kind of saddle.
Width doesn't matter in the long term.

My Composit arrived last night so I put it on.
Tentative test up and down the road immediately after fitting in (obviously unpadded) jeans was "uncomfortable"
Rode in on my commute this morning. Only 11 miles but much more of a test, in bibs was really, really comfortable. I am doing a terrible thing and changing saddle whilst nursing a knee injury from a previous ride but it was the first saddle I have ever sat on where I have thought "oooh, this is comfy"

For @negaatio or @Paradroid or anyone else who has ordered from Lordgun, what did you do about the 5 digit postcode box on the address form? reading this thread has convinced me to try out a Hell

I ride around on a forma with no padding!
Just need to toughen those sit bones up.
I'll keep that on the fast bike for now, interested to see the comparison between sitting on naked carbon fibre, leather over carbon/nylon (Composit) and leather+minimal padding over carbon/nylon (Evo).
^If I've got the models right, of course.
