A bit of pre london google-fu should show up what foodie shops/deli/mini-mart/supermarket are near to your location and little cafes etc etc.
If you fancy visiting museums or tourist hot spots go early if possible, the main ones can get really busy as the day goes on as do the main high streets.
Also a country person so not used to the sheer volume of people milling about, but just going down a side street for a bit is much easier for getting about, haven't seen rush hour yet......... avoiding that one :)
