I could take it back to condor, they only built it up last week. Doesn't feel like BB to me compared to previous BB noises I've had on steel frames, but not ruling it out

BB noises on carbon frames will sound different to BB on steel. Carbon likes to carry noise in funny directions, similar to the flavours of quarks, that's how bizarre it sometimes sounds.
Also on the shortlist is headset, and funnily enough for me on my carbon frame, stem to handlebar interface due to lack of assembly paste.
I'd say scoble's on the money though, BB is usually an easy win.

Fairly sure it isn't the BB, after another ride this morning - there's no sound even if pushing hard on the cranks, but it seems to be related to the front end and happens more after going over bumps. I checked for cables hitting the frame, headset play and a general look around for loose bits but can't see any - what else to check? I thought maybe front QR is worth a look next?

began to hear a creaking through the handlebars yesterday
then noticed a slight misalignment to the front wheel
seems like the ahead bolts has become slightly loose during this springs off roadingcheck your bolts people

Stem/handlebar interface would be my bet too.

OK, I've been going insane trying to figure out where this "click" is coming from. Aside from completely rebuilding the bike I've tried everything, I think...
It sounds like it's coming from the bottom bracket/crankarm/pedal area. Only happens when pedaling seated. Normally at the same point of the pedal stroke, but sometimes get a double-up on occasions. Can't seem to replicate the sound in the bike stand so really hard to find exactly where it's coming from.
I've ridden it without my cleats, and seems like it happens more frequently.
Completely re-greased everything after thorough cleaning and it's still there.
I'm just about to chuck an old pair of pedals on there to see if that sorts it... SO I'll update in a bit.
Any ideas or stories of something similar you've sorted would be MASSIVELY appreciated, before I go completely mad from shouting at my bike while riding.

Stiff link in the chain or loose cleats
-
• #1259
I haven't checked the chain to be fair, but I'll give that a look next.
It's not the cleats as I've ridden it with trainers and get the same noise. Just flipped the pedals for some old beaters and still there.
So yeah, I'll check the chain. It's only a month or so old and clean and lube it pretty often. But I'll double check it anyway. Cheers pacef8.

'only happens when seated'
so maybe is the saddle or the seatpost / saddle clam area ?
-
• #1261
OK, it's not a stiff link, checked every link and seems all good.
Cheers Anidel, I checked the seatpost and saddle yesterday, cleaned and refitted. I felt certain it might have been that. But nope... And now feel I have slightly adjusted my riding position, annoyingly.
Checked the frame over for slight cracks ect and all seems solid to me... Even tried taking the BB cover off to no avail.

Then check the cockpit, it might seem it is coming from the BB area, but it might originate somewhere else.
-
• #1263
Cheers, I've actually already been over that end of the bike, again stripping and re-fitting everything.
Why I'm at such a loose end trying to figure it out. I found this http://www.jimlangley.net/wrench/keepitquiet.html and been over a fair amount.
I've got a new Selle Flite in the post, so maybe might do it?
... If not I may swallow my pride and ride down to the local shop and see if they have any ideas.

it may not work :)
My rear mudguard squeaks whenever I push even a little bit hard on the pedals. soooo annoying.
Brought the bike to a LBS for a full strip down and re+grease (also because of new longer ride to central london), but squeak goes away at the beginning of the ride to then come back after a couple of bumps.
So worked on it myself, re-fitted the mudguard and this morning was great until, towards the end of the ride, I hear it again! ARGH!
So, yeah I feel our pain and I even know where it is coming from! -
• #1265
Ha I know that feeling. A few times I've got maybe an hour or so into the ride with nothing. Thinking it's solved... And then... It never used to do it, which is why it's so annoying.
I've been considering swapping the Shimano 6400 groupset with some Campag. Has anyone had any similar issues with that groupset?
Here's the offending bike. Could it possibly be the tapers on the cranks?
-
• #1266
Is it big ring / little ring specific? Could be crank catching on the extra cable thru front mech if so?
-
• #1267
If it only occurs while seated, could it be that the seat post and frame are not are good size match. Ie. is the frame ID oversized or the seat post OD undersized?
-
• #1268
It's not big or little specific, but maybe it is more regular in the small ring... But that may just be because the cranks are spinning faster.
I wouldn't say it's the cable. It's actually cut shorter then in the picture as I've renewed the cables since that was taken. Also renewed the chainrings which I wanted to do anyway, but didn't solve the noise either.
Cranky: I suppose that could be it, when my new saddle turns up I'll try it out. Both state 27.2mm.
-
• #1269
I had one combination that, as you say, both stated 27.2 mm but the difference was significant. If that is the issue it's not clear to me how to resolve it.
-
• #1270
Cheers for the idea.
I fear the only way may be a new bike... Good excuse as any for one right?
Heading out for an evening spin now, so will be paying close attention to it... It has to be something fixable.
-
• #1271
Only seated you say ! I had a zip that used to tap on the front of my saddle ! Could not fathom out where the noise was coming from for ages !
-
• #1272
It seems it's when I'm slightly out the saddle as well, having just tested it. Also it's there no matter what I'm wearing.
Appreciate all the ideas alot, and although I haven't solved it... Yet... It's "nice" to know other people have gone through the same madness. Fucking Enigma.
-
• #1273
Can you recreate it by standing next to the bike with one foot on the pedal and flex the frame through the BB? It sometimes helps to hear things from a different place to locate them.
-
• #1274
I stripped down a BB and regreased a freehub the other day before figuring out it was the mount bolts for the rear rack.
-
• #1275
Now properly tested with a new saddle and seatpost... of course, no change. Think it now HAS to be the bottom bracket or crankset.
Thinking the tapers, it it seems to flair up underload.
Honestly, take it to a shop.
Sound like BB.
