    If you were right, they'd still be making them :-)

    With enough capital, the minor problems which Kirk had could probably have been sorted out, but the basic idea of a die cast frame could never be competitive on performance at the high end, nor price competitive with welded steel in the BSO market.

    Frames have been made from magnesium alloys before and since, as have motor vehicle and aircraft parts, including engine parts. It's actually pretty hard to set light to bulk magnesium. It's also possible to make steel self-sustain combustion in air if you divide it finely enough, and aluminium and titanium sit somewhere between the two in terms of how thin you have to slice them before they burst into flames.
