Absolutely brilliant again! Hats off to all involved in running it. We left behind the Mercx Volvo right at the front of the 55. Survived one front puncture on fast downhill gravel/chippings section.
Couldn't make the top of that last gruelling hill in before the end in time to see the RAF plane fly down the valley - a minute later we'd have summited and been looking down on it!
Thoughts:
Good steer from @bikes_knob on pubs; didn't see your list before we went but would agree with Manners and Queens Arms.
Best to get out early doors so you can really hammer those railway tracks before the families/walkers/dogs/kids/DofE hikers/mountain bikers clog them up.
Team Carlton did OK; mrs de Selby got round the 30 fine - in a frock! - on her Pro-Am; self and bro-in-law ripped the 55 despite a busted spoke and the aforementioned flat. Tx to Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative for en-route wheel truing.
Finish line a bit confused due to the billions of people milling about. A bit less smooth there than last year.
Respect to the 55-mile guy riding fixed (black jersey/white cross) who tore past us on one of the big climbs!
@wjwat1... how u get that finish line picture? Should I have given them an e-mail or something?
Best weekend of the year - back next year for sure!
