Surprised that the headline wasn't "Cyclist steals £1000 handbag..." tbh

Steal millions as a banker: No charges.
Steal thousands as an MP: Just pay it back.
Steal £1000 as a middle class woman: £325 fine.
Steal £3.50 as a student: Jail for 6 months. So the punishment is inversely proportional to the severity of the crime, yes?
Seems fair.

i wonder if i'd get a grant from hm gov. if i did a bit of regicide
-
• #35459
Actually, the fine was £265
Leaving her with plenty of cash to, you know, treat herself to a nice little handbag to get over this nasty ordeal.

So the punishment is inversely proportional to the severity of the crime, yes?
That would only be true if the banker or MP got a six month term for nicking water, which of course they wouldn't. Punishment appears entirely dependent on social standing, which is why people convicted of benefit fraud are dealt with much more harshly than those falsely claiming expenses. Gotta keep them in their place.

Best one I've heard is:
Driver: You don't pay road tax.
Cyclist: I don't pay for sex either, so I guess I win on both counts. -
• #35462
The road tax thing is so easily replied to these days:
"Yes I do, at the full rate for my C02 emissions. Now cock off you pig-titted ladle face."
-

The following article in German claims the cause of the driver's behaviour was related to his poor mental health.
