Am away in the Netherlands that weekend. I'll keep an eye on the thread and if the date moves I'm in :)
-
• #3
The 27th is the other option, could you make that ?
-
• #4
I think so, but don't change the date on account of me. I'm at a gig the afternoon/eve before (26th) so I am unlikely to 100% commit because I might be in no state to ride 180k!

That's a bit tight, change the ride start to 07:35 ?
-
• #8
Yes sorry about the late arrival. But the alternative was arriving 30 min prior.
-
• #9
Yeah I am fine with the 27th as well.
-
• #10
20th is Eroica Britannia so can't make that. 27th would make 3 weekends in a row with a full days' cycling. Don't think I can swing that with the missus! If it's the 27th I'll try & swing by for some of the northern bit

much excites for this ride.

do you think the hills that will be there can be managed on fixed gear?
-
• #12
There are a few hills at the start, short up down affairs. Someone did do it SS/fixed last time round, a few SS riders pulled out early too. The section through Barnet last time round was tough because of the rain. Then in Lewisham towards the end there was a double hill which is sort of upsetting. (I walked it because I was knackered at that point). Whilst we won't be bolting it I think riding fixed just means its going to be more leisurely. Any other opinions?
Looks like this is happening, best get some training in this weekend and next week.

There are a few Strava links in the original thread.

I rode it fixed last time, it was fine. I think there were a few others on fixed who made it to the end as well.
I'll be on the road bike this time because I'm recovering from an ankle injury, but if my ankle was fit I'd definitely go fixed again.

There you go zaurbek - just out of interest Nick what was your gearing?
-
• #16
Back then I was on 49/19, 69GI. More recently I've defected to the 49/20 camp.

@fasih @Nick.Earthloop thank you, that was very helpful. look forward to this ride.

I may be in, but I won't put my name down just yet, as my knee is still a bit iffy. I really hope I'll make it. It'll be a morning-of-the-ride kind of decision.

I may be in
yay, maybe

May Yay be!

I've adjusted the route to avoid the A312 Parkway (which is a motorway in all but name) without resorting to bumpy roadside cycle lanes.

Pretty much everything between 47.5km and 63km has changed, but we're still going to the San Remo Cafe because I didn't have an ice-cream last time and I plan to correct that mistake. Also, we no-longer have to lift our bikes over a fence.

This is awesome Nick. You have no idea how excited I am about this.
(It reminds me a bit of a Francis Alys performance project).

• #23
I too am very much looking forward to this.

Hmm... 99% sure I am opting for the fixed gear. Better suited to urban riding at a sensible pace.
The big question I suppose is whether it will rain, as it means the difference of between bringing a bag of extra stuff (waterproof kit, dry socks etc) or just the stuff that fits in my jersey pockets. The weather forecast has that single droplet symbol so perhaps it's the kind of thing that can be HTFU'd, especially given the warm weather.
As of Wed afternoon:

At the moment it's looking like it will rain lightly in the afternoon, but be warm enough to tough it out without extra clothes. Not to too windy either.

http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=57932edit: which is what you said
A ride through all 32 London boroughs (and the City of London) ending at the statue of King Charles I in Trafalgar Square, the point at which you are 0 miles from London. We'll be departing from Sidcup Place at 0735 or thereabouts, we'll probably go as soon as the people on the train that comes in to Sidcup at 0726 get to the start.
If we take the same amount of time as last time then it will be getting dark as we finish, so bring lights to be on the safe side.
It's about 180km, mostly flat. This is a ride that waits for everybody, and last time there was a lot of waiting :) We averaged 19 km/h when moving, see strava for details.
There will be regular stops for food, drink and toilet:
My phone number is in the phone numbers thread. I'll be running the Real Time GPS Tracker Android app, if you have an android phone you can install this app and add "earthloop" as a friend and you'll be able to see where we are.
