I saw this advice on another forum and wanted to share it with everyone on this thread. It's about what to do when considering a new purchase:
"Here is my advice, put the money to one side and look at watches. Once you set your heart on one then try your best to leave it for two weeks before you buy. If in two weeks time you have changed your mind and have your eye on something else or you have gone a bit cold on the watch then repeat the process.
This process has saved me a fortune and a lot of hassle." -

I really like the idea of a Rolex like the Airking or an Oyster Perpetual on a strap.....You mention that they can be picked up for about a grand on a strap...any suggestions where? The Watchfinder ones are all out of my budget by some margin...I would really like something that is still waterproof too...

thanks - have you used the site?

Yup; I purchased my Explorer I from there, about 2 months ago:
Just make sure you look at the seller rating (do they have a physical shop?) and how long they've been on the platform. Give their name a google etc.
Be aware that you must pay via bank transfer on Chrono24 so you also might want to use their escrow service if that makes you uncomfortable.

Those original size Explorers are nice but a bit small, not very manly.

So... I'd like to buy my wife a watch. I like Omega but apparently I once said I'd buy her a Rolex when she saw one she liked somewhere. She was kinda joking and so was I but, well, you know how it works...
I've mentioned this in the past but I think I've narrowed down what I'm looking for.
Similar to this, does not have to be ladies specific, but a smaller sized gents watch, which I guess is vintage "normal" sizing. I do not have 6k to spend ( i also said I'd build her a MK1 golf GTi - gotta keep my trap shut) but I would spend from £500 - £1500. Possible? Plausible?
Her current watch is this: (I bought this as a half joke - her Lolex - but she does like it)
It probably keeps better time than an old Rolex, but it's still a very poor substitute!
Where to look? I'd feel safer buying from a shop but all I've seen are ridiculously expensive.

Iconic have put the price up on the metro. I thought the Euro was crashing, surely it should be getting cheaper not more expensive... Gah

You wouldn't get a good version vintage gold lex for £6k anyway

I always like the Omega DeVille. plenty of styles and the square ones can look good too. Gold or Silver?

34mm Rolex Date... too small for a man (me) with average 7.25" wrists?
-

Depends really. Are you wearing it for yourself or somebody else?

Just me. Was interested to know if it's considered objectively too small though.
Google says: traditionally no, by current standard yes.
waiting for my remortgage to come through and need to sell a max bill first, but will be looking at it end of the month i hope - will update with progress
