  • Decided on birch plywood worktops with formica surfaces ala:-

    Wife (an interior designer) says formica must be matte and plain colour (she wants light grey) because formica only looks modern if it's not trying to be anything else (wood effect, speckled, etc).

    I'd rather a slate...

    ...Concrete...

    ...Or metallic look.

    Is this a terrible idea?

  • yes. I find honesty of materials is important. personal though, innit.

  • I did these in our kitchen circa 2000. Be really sure about the adhesive you use, lest the formica split from the wood esp. around the sink.

  • What about a rainbow effect with unicorn inlays?

  • Keep it honest as 6pt said. Where are you getting it from? I have a wood work surface ATM but wish I this set up instead...
